A Guide to Find a Job
Hunting for a job is a tough thing to do, but it really all depends on your approach.
Applying for a job is selling yourself to a potential employer. You should be able to answer a potential employer when they ask you why they should choose you for the job. How can you stand out from the crowd?
Creating a great CV and cover letter is very important. When you are making your CV and cover letter, make sure that it is something that will make the potential get to know you better and be impressed by it. You shouldn’t let failure bring you down so much. Accept the rejection and look for some other place to apply.
Below are some useful approaches to job hunting.
LInkedin is one social media site you should join. Employers consider those who are part of LinkedIn. If you are interested in certain industries, join their discussion groups and start building your social network so that you are updated on job offers. You can also get noticed by following great companies that you like and commenting on their posts. Profesional comments are very welcome on these posts.
When their trusted employees recommend someone for a job, most companies hire these people. Perhaps you have a family member or a friend who works in a company that you want to work in; you can ask this friend or family if there are job openings in their company. Your friend or family member can inform you about vacancies in their company and if they can recommend you, then you have gotten an advantage over your competitors.
While job listings are helpful, don’t stick to it. Don’t focus on vacancies but rather on companies. When you apply with this company, you already have an interest in it that will show in what you say. Job listings are still helpful though. Even if the company that you like has openings for positions you are not qualified for, send your CV and cover letter anyway. You will never know when that company will be needing people with your skills. If you make a great CV and cover letter, then you can show them what you’ve got.
There are many unfamiliar jobs that are available but you need to research on and maybe you would interest to try them out. If you choose a less traditional career path, you could have less competition and you might find more opportunities available if you expand your horizons.
How you handle the application process will give potential employers an idea of what kind of worker you are. Research about the company before making your move. You should be seen as someone who understands the company and what they do.
